Responsibilities
The new digital technologies offer many new possibilities, but it is not obvious which specific technologies provide the best strategic options for the company. What is the business case for introducing the new digital technologies? Many companies are aware of digitalization, but they are in doubt on how and where to start the digital journey. The person filling in the PhD position will assist in developing tools helping companies in assessing the digital opportunities. This will involve the design of new and alternative business models that connect and integrate the physical and digital value chains of companies.
You will be part of a strong CBS team of MADE researchers (currently involving 4 faculty and 3 PhD students). The team focuses on the following three themes related to digitalization:
•Understanding and mapping the cost and benefits when digitalizing in different types of firms depending on technology, competences, value chain, competition, etc.
•Assess how the introduction of new digital technology affects different business models (e.g. in terms of service offerings).
•Explore and demonstrate how better ways of organizing digital production with more transparency, empowerment and delegation can improve efficiency and effectiveness.
The research will be conducted in close collaboration with Danish companies that are committed to provide access to relevant inside data and information.
To fulfill the research and teaching requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and to actively participate in the daily life of the Department.
The Department will give priority to applicants with high grades from their universities.
The three-year PhD programme at CBS allows you to conduct research under the supervision of CBS professors, supported by research training courses. The programme is highly international, and you are expected to participate in international research conferences and to spend time abroad as a visiting PhD student. See the CBS homepage for more information about the PhD programme, http://uk.cbs.dk/phd . It is also required that the applicant shows an interest in joining the Department’s research environment, see http://uk.cbs.dk/smg
CBS PhD graduates are held in high esteem not only in academia and research institutions but also in government and business where their research qualifications are increasingly demanded. One third of CBS PhD graduates go on to employment outside universities and public research institutions.
Copenhagen Business School has a broad commitment to the excellence, distinctiveness and relevance of its teaching and research programmes. Candidates who wish to join us should demonstrate enthusiasm for working in an organisation of this type (highlighting, for example, relevant business, educational and dissemination activities).

DOCTORAL SCHOLARSHIPS PROVIDED BY THE INTERFACULTY COUNCIL FOR DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION (IRO)

As one of its contributions to development cooperation, every academic year KU Leuven selects exceptional students from developing countries as scholarship candidates to obtain their PhD from the largest university of Flanders, Belgium. The programme is managed by IRO, the University's Interfaculty Council for Development Cooperation. The aim is to give students the opportunity to do their full PhD research at KU Leuven; therefore, other types of agreement (e.g. sandwich programmes) are excluded from the programme. Over the past ten years, the IRO Doctoral Scholarships Programme has supported more than a hundred PhD graduates.
