  OSLO, Norway – Remediation work on the Aje-5 well in OML 113 offshore Nigeria is scheduled to begin in December, partner Panoro Energy ASA said in its 3Q financial results. Production rates during the quarter have continued to be limited, as the well requires subsurface intervention to remedy a mechanical problem. Further to that, the availability of the gas lift on the Front Puffin FPSO to optimize production rates was limited and some modifications and repair to components of that system have been necessary. The gas lift system engineering work has been delayed but is now well under way and the system is planned to be operational again in the near future, Panoro confirmed. The delay in using the gas lift system has impacted production during 3Q and will also affect the production expected in 4Q. The Alder Field brings a new stream of natural gas to Chevron’s production portfolio and the United Kingdom. Yet this North Sea asset is no newcomer to the country’s energy scene. Discovered in 1975, development of the gas condensate field was considered impossible, due to the challenges of high pressures and high temperatures in the field's reservoir, lying 14,700ft (4,480m) beneath the seabed. Nearly 40 years later, the right combination of technology, infrastructure for processing and export, and commercial conditions made the project viable. Chevron announced its investment decision in January 2014. The project has a design capacity of 14,000 barrels of condensate and 110 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. Alder, located 100 miles (160 km) east of Scotland in the Central North Sea, is being developed using a single subsea well tied back to an existing gas condensate field, Britannia, via a 17.4 mile (28 km) production flowline. From 1 April 2018 the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) will come into force, making it illegal to agree a new lease on a commercial property with an F or a G Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating, unless the property is registered as an exemption. From April 2023 this will be the case for all existing leases, not just new ones.
