University of Edinburgh Business School offers up to three PhD scholarships in Accounting and Finance
Each year, University of Edinburgh Business School offers up to three PhD scholarships in Accounting and Finance. These scholarships are open to the students of all nationalities.
The University of Edinburgh Business School enjoys a long tradition of teaching and research. The School offers undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education programmes in business and management and provides a platform for research, discussion and debate on a wide range of business issues.
An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of at least 7.0 overall or the equivalent from approved list of certificates.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing PhD programme.
Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded in the field of Accounting and/or Finance.
List of Subjects: The major areas of interest in current staff research are as follows:
Accounting: Accounting for charities, Accounting and consumer society, Accounting narratives, Accounting and popular culture, Accounting regulation, Accounting, strategy, and information technologies Financial accounting, Healthcare and social care accounting and accountability, History of accounting and calculative practices, Management accounting, governance and control, Management controls for major programmes & projects, Market-based accounting research, Social studies of accounting and accountability and The accounting profession
Business and climate change: Benchmarking carbon performance, Carbon accounting, Carbon markets & low carbon investment and Risk management
Finance: Banking, Behavioural finance, Capital market anomalies, Corporate finance, Corporate governance, Corporate pension risk analysis, Econometrics of financial markets, Empirical asset pricing, Equity valuation, Energy finance, Institutional setting for IPO markets and underpricing of IPOs and Market microstructure; high frequency trading
Scholarship Award: The award will be for three years, subject to satisfactory progress, at the following rates:
- European Union candidates: standard EU tuition fee plus maintenance fee of £14,500 per year
- Non-European Union candidates: standard non-EU tuition fee plus maintenance fee of £14,500 per year
Scholarship can be taken in the UK
Eligibility: Applicants should have
- A postgraduate master’s degree from an accredited institution in the UK or overseas with evidence of above-average academic achievement (more than 65% overall in your Masters) and a postgraduate master’s dissertation with distinction (UK equivalent). MBA or master’s students without a dissertation are welcome to apply and should provide evidence of distinction level (UK equivalent). Official transcript and grading scheme must be provided when they submit their application.
- An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of at least 7.0 overall, or the equivalent from approved list of certificates.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: Entry to the PhD programme is highly competitive, and usually requires that applicants have the following minimum qualifications
- A postgraduate master’s degree from an accredited institution in the UK or overseas
- Evidence of above-average academic achievement (more than 65% overall) and a postgraduate master’s dissertation with distinction (UK equivalent). MBA or master’s students without a dissertation are welcome to apply and should provide evidence of distinction level (UK equivalent). Applicants official transcript and grading scheme must be provided when you submit your application.
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 7.0 (with no score lower than 6.0 in each section)
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT: 100 (with scores no lower than 20 in each section)
- Pearson Test of English (PTE): 67 (with at least 56 in each of the “Communicative Skills” sections)
- Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): an overall score of 185 (with no less than 169 in each skill)
- Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): an overall score of 185 (with no less than 169 in each skill)
