Ulster University Scholarships for International Students in UK, 2017



Ulster University is inviting applications for Vice-Chancellor’s Research Scholarships (VCRS). These scholarships are open to international applicants wishing to undertake research degree programme.
Ulster University, officially the University of Ulster, is a multi-campus public university located in Northern Ireland. It is often referred to informally and unofficially as Ulster, or by the abbreviation UU.
English language proficiency is a vital skill whilst undertaking a research degree, applicants are therefore expected to provide evidence of their proficiency in English by way of an approved test.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing a research programme.
Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to study the subjects offered by the university.
Scholarship Award: A scholarship comprises the following subject to satisfactory progress and annual review:
  • All tuition fees for a maximum period of three years;
  • Annual maintenance allowance (£14,296, in 2016-2017 which is subject to annual adjustment). Payments for periods less than twelve months will be reduced proportionately.

Eligibility: To be eligible for an award
  • A candidate should hold or expect to hold by 15 August of the year of application, a first or
upper second-class Honours degree in a subject area closely related to the project to be undertaken. Other additional conditions may be set depending on the constraints of the discipline and are as advertised;
  • Applicants with up to one years current or previous registration for PhD at any institution may be considered for an award subject to the applicant providing evidence of good academic progress, formal release from all IP restrictions and ethical approval (if required). Three-year awards may be allocated to such applicants where they are taking up a new project at Ulster. In cases where the applicant is continuing with a project already commenced at Ulster, the duration of the award will be reduced by the full period of any previous registration.
Nationality: UK, European Union and overseas students can apply for Ulster University Scholarships.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: Applicants for these awards must have, or expect to obtain in Summer 2016, the minimum of an upper second-class honours degree in a specific research area (as advertised).
English Language Requirement: Non-UK/EU students who intend to study on a Tier 4 visa must have a UK Home Office approved the test. As of 06 April 2015 the only accepted test providers are:
  • IELTS – Applicants must have IELTS (UK Visas & Immigration (Academic)) awarded with an overall grade of 6.0, and no individual component less than 5.5;
  • Trinity College London – Applicants must have Integrated Skills with English, awarded with level B2 or above
Research Scholarships
How to Apply: All applications are made online. Forms must be completed in full, including information on existing qualifications and transcripts, funding details or requirements, evidence of English language proficiency (where appropriate) and names and addresses of referees. It is advised that applicants discuss their research proposals with suitable members of academic staff prior to returning their application forms.
