The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) awards nine prizes of USD 15,000 each to individual scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least 10 years. Prizes are open in the fields of Science and/or to the application of Science and Technology to Sustainable Development.
TWAS’s mission is to recognize, support and promote excellence in scientific research in the developing world.
TWAS, the World Academy of Sciences-for the advancement of science in developing countries – is an autonomous international organization founded in Triste, Italy. TWAS represents, support and encourage the pursuit excellence in science in developing countries.
Course Level: These prizes are awarded to young scientists.
Study Subject: The scholarship prize are awarded within the fields of Agricultural Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Earth, Astronomy and Space Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Mathematics, Medical Sciences, Physics and Social Sciences.
Scholarship Award: Each year the Academy awards nine prizes of USD 15,000 each to individual scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least 10 years.
Number of Scholarships: Up to nine prizes will be awarded to young scientists.
Scholarship can be taken in Developing Countries
Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for scholarship:
- Candidates for a TWAS Prize must be scientists who have been working
and living in a developing country for at least ten years immediately
prior to their nomination. They must meet at least one of the following
qualifications:
- Scientific research achievement of outstanding significance for the development of scientific thought.
- Outstanding contribution to the application of science and technology to sustainable development.
- Members of TWAS and candidates for TWAS membership are not eligible for TWAS Prizes.
- Self-nominations will not be considered.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: Candidates for a TWAS Prize must be scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least ten years immediately prior to their nomination.
